Driving in Australia

Don’t like public transport? Don’t worry, you can drive while working and travelling in Australia!

Most visitors are able to drive in Australia on their existing driving licence for a maximum of three months after arriving in Australia. However specific rules do vary across each state.

To ensure you can drive during your entire stay we recommend that you purchase an International Driving Permit (IDP). This permit is designed for travellers, and will allow you to drive in participating overseas countries without testing as long as your driver’s licence is valid. Some car hire companies in Australia also require you to have an IDP.

Remember, in Australia we drive on the left!
