Providing easy working holiday visa 417 applications

Working Holiday Visa 417 allows entry into Australia for up to 1 year and allows the visa holder to work in Australia with a limitation of no more than 6 months in any one job. If you are awarded a 417 visa you may also be eligible for a second year working holiday Visa, allowing you to extend your stay by another year.

Am I Eligible?

To be eligible for a Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa, you must hold the kind of passport specified in Column 1 of the below schedule, subject to satisfying any conditions in Column 2 for passports of that kind.

Type of Passport Conditions
Belgium Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Belgium
Canada Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Canada
Denmark Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Denmark
Finland Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Finland
France Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of France
Italy Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Italy
Norway Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Norway
Sweden Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Sweden
The Netherlands Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of The Netherlands
The Republic of Ireland Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of the Republic of Ireland
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Passport must indicate that the applicants nationality is British Citizen or British National (Overseas)
Estonia Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Estonia
Germany Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Germany
Japan Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Japan
Malta Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Malta
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People’s Republic of China Nil
The Republic of Cyprus Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of the Republic of Cyprus
The Republic of Korea Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of the Republic of Korea
Passports issued by the authorities of Taiwan Passport must not purport to be an official or diplomatic passport

 

What documents do I need for my Working Holiday application?

In order to compile and lodge a valid Working Holiday (Subclass 417) Visa application to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP), the following supporting documentation is required. Documents not in English must be accompanied by an accredited English translation.

Certified copies are copies authorised or stamped as being true copies of the originals by a person or agency recognised by the law of the country in which you currently reside. E.g. Police or Notary Public.

Passport biographical pages for all current passports held

  • This is the page with your photo and personal details including expiry. Please note that you must have at least 6 months validity remaining on your passport
  • Please provide a certified copy

Passport sized colour photographs (45mm x35mm)

  • Please write your full name and date of birth on the back and scan the front and back of both photos

Birth Certificate

  • Your birth certificate must show both parents’ names. If you do not have a birth certificate, then you may provide the following:
    – Family Book showing both parents’ names;
    – Identification document issued by the government; and/or
    – Court-issued documents that verify your identity.
  • If your name has changed, evidence of the name change
  • Please provide certified copies

Funds

  • Evidence of sufficient funds of at least AUD$5,000. Please provide bank certified copies of Bank Statements showing you have access to such funds.
  • Your return airfare or onward journey or evidence of sufficient funds to purchase such an airfare at the end of your stay in Australia.

Other

  • If you have served in the armed forced of any country, certified copies of military service record or discharge papers.
  • Your CV/Resume
  • Evidence of your highest qualification i.e. Degree, Diploma
  • Evidence of Health Insurance for your stay in Australia
  • Signed Form 956 (available below)
